Library Board Meeting

MINUTES of the meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on July 2, 2014.  The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m.

ROLL CALL:  Trustees in attendance:  John Wilkinson, Barbara Reid, Austine Stitt, Judy Wrigley, Jim Moran and Judi Harris as well as County Librarian Kathy Chandler.  Also in attendance were Jim Curtis and Judy Clausen.  Library Trustee Barbara Smith was out of town and unable to attend.

PUBLIC COMMENT:  There was no public comment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  A motion was made by Austine Stitt to approve the minutes of the Board meeting on June 4, 2014.  The motion was seconded by Judy Wrigley and passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:    Jim Curtis reported that the City will not begin working on the plaza or the alley this year and that the steel beams for the construction project will be able to be delivered by October 15 in accordance with the Library’s proposed building schedule.  

A motion was made by John Wilkinson that the Board authorize approval to proceed with plans to begin construction on August 20, 2014.  The motion was seconded by Barbara Reid and passed unanimously.  

Jim Curtis complimented John Keleher on his work in helping guide the process during the initial phases of construction planning.

FUND RAISING:  Judy Clausen, fund raising consultant, gave a report on the beginnings of a fundraising campaign for the construction and remodeling project.  She asked the Board to review and offer suggestions on the draft documents for gift policy, background information, and a fundraising plan.    A motion was made by John Wilkinson to adopt the proposal for incorporating the policy for naming opportunities and gift recognition into the Library’s current gift policy.    The motion was seconded by Judy Wrigley and was approved on first reading unanimously.

The booksale area has been moved to make room for a content creation lab.

ADJOURNMENT:   A motion was made by Austine Stitt to adjourn the meeting at 1:50 p.m. The motion was seconded by Barbara Reid and passed unanimously.
