MINUTES of a special meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on August 30,
2021. The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. in the Bill Dunaway Community Meeting
Room.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Judi Harris, Elizabeth Nix, Barbara Reid, and
Judy Wrigley. Also attending were Sara Ott, Mike Tunte, and Torre. Unable to attend were
Trustees Austine Stitt and Barbara Smith and County Librarian Kathy Chandler.
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: Barbara Reid spoke in detail about how much the Library Board
values the Library’s relationship with the City of Aspen’s plan to improve the Galena Street
Plaza. The Board looks forward to more utilization of the Plaza by residents. Barbara also
expressed the Board and library staff’s enthusiasm to create a partnership with the City regarding
future programming to take place in the Plaza. It is clear that the Parks Department and the
Library will need to have good, clear communication in order for their mutual use to be
compatible. Discussion also ensued about possible plantings separating the Library patio from
the rest of the Plaza. There is some concern about this, and it was agreed this is not set in stone
and will be revisited before Phase Two begins.
FUTURE MEETING DATES:
September 8 October 13
November 10 December 5 Holiday Potluck
ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Judi Harris and seconded by Barbara Reid to adjourn
the meeting at 3:30 p.m.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
Judy Wrigley
