MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Pitkin County Library Board of Trustees on March 2, 2023. The meeting was called to order at 12:07 PM.
ROLL CALL: Trustees present: John Wilkinson, Ashley Connolly, Elizabeth Nix, Barbara Reid, and Barbara Smith. Alternates present: Audrey Ellis and Anna Scott. Staff: Kathy Chandler and Genevieve Smith. Guests: Jodi Smith and Art Burrows. Trustees not present: Austine Stitt and Elizabeth Stewart-Severy. Audrey Ellis and Anna Scott became voting members in their absence.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
TRUSTEE COMMENTS: John Wilkinson reports he is heading to Washington, DC as one of 4 representing Colorado libraries. John also reported that he would like us to consider ordering a “hush box” for the projector fan.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Elizabeth Nix moved to approve the meeting minutes of February 8, 2023. Ashley Connolly seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
LIBRARIANS REPORT:
Discussed transition of County Librarian effective March 1. Kathy will stay on as a temporary worker to help with the transition.
Reviewed changes in budget for Aspen Newspaper Project and a supplemental request for building maintenance.
Redstone Inn Libraryette - They were thrilled to get a small collection.
Art brochure and inventory of artwork - Trustees discussed procedures for handling donated or borrowed art.
OLD BUSINESS
New sign for the Library - Art Burrows attended the meeting to talk about a new sign for the east entrance of the Library. Trustees reviewed graphics and he will move the process forward.
NEW BUSINESS
Jodi Smith with the county attended the meeting and is working on electrification study per request from the BOCC. She discussed the process and need for new boilers.
Snowmass Village Library Station: Dave Detweiler sent over a new proposal for the Board to review. The idea is to review the scope of the service document. Trustees reviewed the proposal. Jodi Smith provided feedback and feels it is positive to move forward with Phase 1. Audery Ellis
motioned to approve phase 1 of the project. Anna Scott seconded and motion was approved unanimously. Discussion regarding who would be on the selection committee. Tentative committee consists of Jodi Smith, Genevieve, Andy Worline (Dir. of Snowmass Rec.), John
Wilkinson and Barbara Reid.
Policy Manual Revision: Trustees determined to table it until the next Trustee meeting. Board will review changes.
Approval of Election Slate: Trustees approved the following slate: John Wilkinson president, Ashley Connolly secretary and Barbara Reid treasurer. New slate approved until June.
ADJOURNMENT: Barbara Smith motioned to dismiss the meeting at 1:45 pm, Anna Scott seconded the motion, all in favor.
